Guidance on Partner Notification

This guidance document from the Society of Sexual Health Advisers provides an introduction to partner notification services for HIV and sexually transmitted infections; describes how to conduct, document, and monitor the outcomes of partner notification interviews (including motivational interviewing and person-centered communication); and addresses the various communication methods for conducting partner notification, including the use of social networking sites. The appendices provide sample language for open-ended questions, affirmations, and reflections; techniques for responding to resistance to and eliciting commitment to partner notification; motivational interviewing principles for partner notification; and a tool for auditing these services.
