HIVST in West Africa: ATLAS Training Manuals for Health Care Providers in Senegal

To ensure quality HIVST distribution, correct use, and accurate interpretation of results, and to promote effective linkage to testing confirmation and care, the ATLAS Project has developed comprehensive training packages for dispensing agents in each country but also HIVST supporting tools for users.

Specific and adapted training sessions have been conducted in Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Senegal to train health providers on facility-based distribution of HIVST kit agents for persons living with HIV and their partners and for people with sexually transmitted infections and their partners.

The resource material includes training manuals used during two-day sessions in Senegal, focused on using teaching methods and practical exercises and contains the following training modules:

  • Introduction
  • Module 1: Epidemiological, Political, and Strategic Context for HIVST Integration
  • Module 2: OraQuick HIVST Kit Presentation and Its Supporting Tools
  • Module 3: Role, Expected Qualities for Health Providers, and How to Correctly Distribute HIVST Kits among Targeted Populations
  • Health Care Providers’ Handbook
