This article described the study design and protocol for a cluster-randomized controlled trial of assisted HIV partner notification services in voluntary HIV counseling and testing sites and provider-initiated HIV testing and counseling programs in Kenya. In addition to research-specific activities, it details procedures for tracing and notifying partners of HIV exposure, screening and monitoring for intimate partner violence, and key outcomes for partner notification services programs. The trial was a collaboration between the Kenyan Ministry of Health’s National AIDS and STI Control Programme, Kenyatta National Hospital, and the University of Washington.
