Queensland Positive People / University of Queensland (N.D.).

Queensland Positive People (QPP) and the University of Queensland created this brochure as a support material for HIV self-testers. The program targets men who have sex with men (MSM) in Queensland, Australia through online delivery of HIV self-test (HIVST) kits via a website linked to QPP. QPP is a peer-based organization providing services to people living with HIV (PLHIV) including a range of HIV information resources, support services and established referral pathways. Interest-based targeting and geo-targeting is used to recruit MSM living in the region. To address disparities in access to HIV testing services for all people living in remote areas, kits are mailed to anyone who makes an online request. Between December 1, 2016 and March 17, 2018, the program has distributed 881 HIVST kits. The program has been effective in recruiting infrequent testers (23%) and individuals who have never been tested for HIV (30%). After ordering HIVST kits online, participants complete the self-test with oral HIVST instructions and this informational brochure. The brochure provides some general information on HIV (treatment as prevention, post-exposure prophylaxis, and pre-exposure prophylaxis), the benefits of regular testing for HIV and other STIs and supportive messaging for self-testers who may receive a reactive result. The brochure also includes contact information for a support network of PLHIV peer navigators. Program implementers may want to replicate these materials with relevant support information.
