This WHO interim policy brief provides updated recommendations for early infant diagnosis (EID) including an indeterminate range to improve the accuracy of nucleic acid–based EID assays. Laboratory considerations outlined for optimizing high-quality EID include: repeat testing of indeterminate results, confirmatory testing of all positive test results, and testing throughout the exposure period.
